We are looking for a mature Christian to join our community as Head Chef and Kitchen Supervisor coupling the performance of religious duties with a non-pastoral role as part of the house team for Glyndley Manor.
Ellel Glyndley Manor, East Sussex
Applications deadline: Monday 31st March 2025 31 Mar 25
Residential
Ellel Ministries’ foundational scripture is Luke 9:11, where Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those who needed healing. The ‘welcome’ aspect of what we do is therefore very important to us here at Glyndley Manor as it is a way to share God’s love to those who come through our doors. All of our team do a variety of jobs but each has the satisfaction of knowing they are part of a bigger picture enabling God’s heart to reach those who are hurting and need His touch.
Given our ethos as a Christian community, applicants are required to be Christians and have a heart for the healing ministry. Participation in our Christian community and performance of religious devotional duties is an essential aspect of this role. You will also have opportunities to grow in your Christian faith through regular attendance on teaching courses through our Two-Year Discipleship Programme for your own personal development and to receive prayer ministry.
Other opportunities may include welcoming and/or hosting guests to the centre; training in prayer ministry and opportunities to share short devotional messages with the team and/or guests on events; opportunities for teaching and/or group leading during events with guests.
As our Head Chef and Kitchen Supervisor you will oversee our daily kitchen operations including cooking a variety of good quality dishes to the required standards for twice daily sittings of around 50-60 people (on some occasions up to 100). You must hold a current certificate of food hygiene, be able to maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen, make up the food menus in liaison with the Catering Manager and perform other administrative tasks including food ordering.
The role requires 40 hours per week, working 5 days over the week, including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis and we are looking for an appropriate level of fitness due to the physical aspects of the role. You must also be enthusiastic, able to teach and work alongside our current Undivided Young People’s Gap year team and be keen to serve the Lord in this area of welcome and hospitality.
You will have daily and direct contact with the team from a range of backgrounds so good interpersonal skills are essential, as is a heart for the Christian healing ministry.
The role is a full-time, live-in position and is a fixed term for two years as part of our Service and Discipleship programme. It comes with full board accommodation (private bedroom and shared kitchen, bathroom and living areas) along with an appropriate allowance to cover personal expenses. The role will include regular evening, weekend, and bank holiday working on a rota basis.
