Ellel Grange is the International Headquarters of the ministry and is where the work began, back in 1986. It is a beautiful country house, from which we offer a wide selection of healing and training events.

We have many different courses depending on where you are at in your walk with Jesus. These include unique single-day teaching events, to long-weekends that host courses such as our deeply impacting Healing through Creativity experience. Many of our courses include the opportunity to receive life-changing prayer ministry alongside practical teaching and training. For those that just want to focus on receiving personal healing prayer ministry, we offer free Healing Retreats.
On 31st October 1986 Ellel Grange, a country house in the North West of England, was acquired in a miraculous way. Nearly half a million pounds was required for the property and its contents and on the completion date, as Peter Horrobin sat at his desk and totalled up the gifts and loans that were available, he could hardly believe his eyes. The income that had been received exceeded the amount needed by just £6! God had worked a miracle, the building was purchased, and the work began.

Ellel Ministries offers a variety of courses, which are categorised as short courses & events, and longer courses. Each Ellel UK centre offers something unique. Here at Ellel Grange we have some fantastic courses to suit every level of Christian walk and growth. At Ellel Grange, Explore is a series of weekend courses designed to train and equip God’s people through a journey of learning, understanding and personal transformation.
Explore is ideal for those who would like a training course spread across a whole year (with an option to do a second year’s course), enabling you to enjoy rich fellowship with new friends, discover and apply healing principles in your life and that of others, and grow in a deeper understanding of your personal relationship with God. The core aims of the course are to envision your walk with the Lord, grow your spiritual gifts, cleanse and heal past and present wounds in your life and help prepare your next steps in what God has for your life. Between each course you will have the time to use your Explore teaching notes and journal and apply those truths, reflecting on each step of your journey. It’s a thrilling spiritual journey and we think you will love it!
Flagship is a life-changing 9-week journey and is Ellel Grange’s most in-depth training course. Experience amazing Christian fellowship in the context of powerful personal growth through training in healing, discipleship, leadership and prayer.
This course is the perfect opportunity for those on the cross roads of life and ministry, looking for their next step in Christian training. Flagship is a unique opportunity to go into the deeper things of God, to discover more about yourself, your place in His Kingdom and to be equipped to live the life God has called you to.
At Ellel Grange we run Undivided, which is an amazing year-long opportunity for 18-25’s to set themselves apart for a year to serve others in Christian ministry, receive life-shaping biblical teaching and enjoy fun and fellowship with new friends from around the world! If you are passionate about Jesus, long to live for Him with an undivided heart and want to share His life-transforming love with others, this is for you.
The program is completely free and will be an unforgettable experience. For those that join, you will be part of an exciting spiritual adventure, growing your faith, nurturing your spiritual and practical gifting and will be actively expressing your Christian life in very real ways. Alongside group bible studies, prayer times and recreation, there will also be many opportunities to serve, including worship times, house duties, maintenance, cooking, administration and media. Here at Ellel Grange, the Undivided team will be given our popular Explore teaching, which will set strong Biblical foundations for your future.

Visiting Ellel Grange is more than coming on a training course or receiving some help for an issue you may be struggling with – our daily prayer is that those who come to Ellel Grange receive an experience of God’s love and goodness. That you receive a personal, fresh hope and vision of your future, to be equipped in your life calling and discipleship walk. The team here are passionate to see the heart of God expressed through all we do, and our hope is that this is evident in your time with us – whether you are being served a meal, being prayed for, enjoying a walk in our beautiful grounds, worshipping, or just having a one-to-one chat with someone. Our goal is to set you on the path towards being fruitful for God’s Kingdom – to help restore families, heal the sick, repair relationships, mend a broken spirit of despair, end cycles of self-cursing and bring freedom out of the bondage of darkness! To help build one another up as part of the Body of Christ.
We do hope you make yourself comfortable during your stay – we have two pretty lounges and you won’t have to wander far to find a comfy sofa, we have many dotted around the centre.
We have a snooker table on the landing which can facilitate many an hour of fun – why not start up a game – there is usually someone desperate to play! If reading is your hobby you will want to give plenty of time to indulge in our well stocked bookshop – you will find some inspiring and very helpful reads there.
We offer a range of accommodation options. To welcome as many on the course as possible most of our rooms are shared or twin. If you prefer more privacy, there are excellent bed & breakfasts and hotels nearby. For each course you will find there are mutiple accommodation options depending on your preference, which are budget (4-6 sharing), standard (3 sharing), twin (2-sharing) and twin ensuite. There is also the non-residential option where you can choose to stay off premises, and simply join us for the courses and meals. The non-residential option includes lunch & dinner, but not breakfast. Contact us for suggested places to stay. Rooms with disabled access are located at ground floor level, and also have limited availability. Further details are available upon request.
As beautiful and welcoming as we hope you find the indoors, we do hope you find a chance to pop outside and enjoy the beautiful grounds. We are blessed with large grounds, pleasant wooded areas with one of the finest collections of trees in the north of England, and a lovely wooden adult swing to enjoy. If you are looking for more fresh air, just head down the drive and you will soon come to the canal bridge. A little gate on the right leads onto the canal towpath, where you can take some lovely walks. We hope you enjoy your stay.
When you arrive at Ellel Grange you will be given the teaching notes for the course you are attending (notes may not be included for some shorter courses). All of our events include times of worship followed by biblically-based teaching sessions that normally last for up to an hour each. Plenty of coffee, tea and biscuits are available during the breaks and delicious home-cooked food is served during the meal times. Time is also made available on each course for those who want to respond to the teaching and receive prayer from our ministry team. This is done in the group setting. Our team are always around to help with any questions or concerns you might have during your time with us. Every course has a slightly different emphasis, so times available for prayer ministry vary – some courses include more intensive teaching while others allow more time for reflection and practical ministry. Andy is the International Director of Ellel Ministries and Cath works closely with him as Assistant International Director. They also lead the work at Ellel Grange and in the UK and Ireland region.
Andy & Cath have been with Ellel Ministries since the early 1990’s. They came to join the Gap Year team and have never left! With over 10 years serving the Lord with Ellel in Australia and USA they are passionate about what the Lord can do when He has time, permission and space to gently touch the very real, often messy, issues that are going on in people’s lives!
They have three sons who have adventured with them on their Ellel journey and who are the joy of their hearts! When not busy at Ellel, you will find them up a mountain, climbing over a stile or eating scones in their beloved local Lake District!

John and Sue met at London Bible College after John left a banking career and Sue returned from the mission field in Romania. They have subsequently worked in a number of churches and other Christian contexts, including a number of Bible Colleges and establishing and leading a Missional Community in the Lake District. Most recently, after 8 years leading the Garstang Free Methodist church, the couple heard God’s clear call to join the team at Ellel Grange. They completed the Flagship school in the Autumn of 2020 and have subsequently assumed their new roles as part of the Ellel Grange Leadership team. They both have a real passion for whole-life discipleship and helping others to find their place in the body of Christ.
They enjoy having adventures together with their (very sweet) dog, Poppy, love exploring the world with all its diverse cultures and peoples and always have a pile of books they’re reading.
Ellel Grange, like all other Ellel centres relies on the free-will giving of God’s people to support the ministry. This giving enables us to continue offering personal prayer ministry free of charge to those in need and so with each gift comes the potential for a changed life! Our centres also need regular maintenance and sometimes significant projects are required to enable us to keep going with the vision God has given us. We are conveniently located less than a mile south of junction 33 of the M6 motorway. After leaving the motorway, take the first turn exit at the first roundabout, and then take an almost immediate first right on to our main driveway where you will see our signs.
Our nearest train station is Lancaster Station which is just 6 miles north of Ellel Grange. From there you can easily get a taxi to us. The next nearest station is Preston which is 21 miles south of Ellel Grange.
Local taxis are readily available to and from Ellel Grange. Contact us for taxi phone numbers, if required.
A bus stop is located at the end of our main drive on both sides of the A6 main road. Buses regularly run between Lancaster and Preston on the A6.
Our nearest international airport is Manchester (MAN), which is 55 miles away. It’s connected to a railway terminal providing regular train travel direct to nearby Lancaster (6 miles from Ellel Grange). From there you can take a taxi. If flying into the UK’s other major airports, Heathrow provides air connections to Manchester, or alternatively take a train from London Euston direct to Lancaster.
We have a friendly reception team who will be available throughout your stay and will be able to help you with any practical problems or questions you may have. It is open daily from 9:00am – 5.30pm.
We have a main car park for all our guests. Limited blue badge parking is available at the front of the house (all cars are parked at your own risk).
We have limited ground floor bedrooms available so please enquire when booking your room if we have availability. There is wheelchair access from our courtyard entrance and our team will be available to help if needed. Please call ahead so that we can greet you and help you in.
Our kitchen team are passionate about making delicious, nutritious meals for our guests. We are able to cater for some special medical diets if you give us notice on booking and liaise with us. Meal times are typically: Breakfast 8:45am, Lunch 1:00pm, Evening Meal 6:00pm.
For each course you will find there are multiple accommodation options depending on your preference, which are budget (4-6 sharing), standard (3 sharing), twin (2-sharing) and twin ensuite. We provide electric blankets in all our rooms on every bed for the comfort of our guests.
Free WiFi internet access is available throughout the house.
For guests staying on our longer term courses or who wish to plan an extended trip in the area, there is an abundance of fantastic places to see and explore.
Ellel Grange is nestled amongst some of England’s finest and most spectacular scenery. To the north there is the exquisite Lake District National Park, home of Beatrix Potter and a walkers paradise (35 miles to Windermere). To the East of Ellel Grange there is the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with stunning limestone pavement, rolling hills and quintessential english farmland and market towns.
On our own doorstep there is the historic city of Lancaster with its medieval castle and the Forest of Bowland, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Or you can explore some of our nearby coastlands, such as Blackpool and Lytham St Annes, with wide open beaches and victorian period promenades, or take in the stunning Morecambe Bay sunset views towards the Lake District mountains.
For a nearby trip, why not visit The Flower Bowl at Barton Grange, the country’s largest garden centre with shops, cafe, cinema, crazy golf, bowling and curling rink! Or try Scorton Barn’s unbeatable cakes and coffee. Wallings is loved for its superb farmhouse ice cream and sundaes (beware the huge portions!). Or take a drive through the gorgeous Trough of Bowland.
