The Prologue: In the Beginning

When you open a book, before it actually begins, there are often a few pages of introduction. Part of this is what we call a ‘prologue’: the bit that goes before the main body of what the book is going to say. This really matters. It’s the part that helps make sense of everything that is to follow. To neglect the prologue is often to lose vital elements of what the rest of the book will build on.

The Bible is an amazing book and Genesis chapters 1 to 3 are the like the prologue to the rest of the adventure. In wonderful poetic language, we’re invited to join in the biggest story ever told: the story of space, time and everything, told in a wonderfully creative and enigmatic way.

The Prologue explores these foundational chapters and shows how the questions that we might bring, such as ‘when’ or ‘how’ things happen, are much less interesting than the Big Question of ‘why’.

To skip these remarkable chapters is to miss the heartbeat of the Big Story that the remaining 66 books will go on to tell. You could say that these 3 chapters are the bedrock of all that follows.
